Keep Our Schools Exciting and Challenging for Students Like Me

Being a high school student comes with many challenges. One of those is keeping students like me engaged. I rarely feel challenged in school and it takes a lot to keep my attention. There is one class I have no trouble getting excited about. It’s called Intro to Engineering. This is the only class that can hold my attention and keep me engaged start to finish. One of my favorite assignments in class is making parts on Inventor, an engineering software program. Mr. Holmok, my engineering teacher, always finds a way to make the class entertaining and fresh. This program is made available through the West Shore Career Tech District at Lakewood HIgh School. I was accepted into the Engineering program after applying in 8th grade. The program includes classes that allow me to earn college credits in engineering now, while I’m still in High School at no additional cost to me or my family. This program is setting me up for a future in Engineering and Technology.

It’s important to note, West Shore is funded in a number of different ways, including through the Lakewood City Schools Levy. I understand the Levy also funds a good portion of instructional fees for our schools, helping to attract and employ the best teachers, teachers like Mr. Holmok. Without the levy, our schools would not stand out from other schools. They would offer nothing but the basics; math, reading, writing, science and social studies. These subjects are important but Lakewood students deserve more. We deserve engaging classes and the best teachers. With the Levy, Lakewood City Schools can offer classes that turn a normal school day into something engaging and fun. Keep our schools exciting and challenging for students like me. Vote “Yes” for the Levy.
